Life Skills Training

This program targets all 3rd through 8th grade students in the Georgetown Independent School District with 8 sessions of prevention education. Through twenty years of rigorous research, this program has been proven to cut tobacco, alcohol and marijuana use by up to 75%, polydrug use by up to 66%, and decrease the use of inhalants, narcotics and hallucinogens.

Family Focus

This is a six-session program designed for families with pre- and young adolescents. During the first hour, parents and youth are involved in educational sessions with their peers. Subjects covered include Love and Limits, Appreciating Family Members, Encouraging Good Behavior, Family Meetings, Dealing with Stress, Following Rules, Family Values, Building Bridges and Resistance Skills. A family session allows for the practice of skills and recreational activities. The curriculum focuses on reducing family-related risk factors and building protective factors.

Rainbow Connection

This program targets at-risk youth ages 6 – 11 through small, support groups. This is a school-based program focusing on the skills youth need to be successful and live alcohol, tobacco and drug-free lives.

Profiles In Courage

This is a program for middle- and high-school students who are experiencing early signs of substance abuse and other related problems such as school failure, social problems, or antisocial behaviors. The curriculum, Positive Action, is delivered in small support-groups for ten sessions. Other services provided are problem identification and referral, intervention counseling, information dissemination, and alternative activities.

JumpStart

This program is designed for at-risk youth and their families residing in the Taylor area. This prevention program is build around the Strengthening Families curriculum. A number of other support services are offered such as community service opportunities, alternative activities, and assistance from the Community Resource Coordination Group in accessing other services.

Williamson County Coalition on Underage Drinking

This brings together a diverse group of citizenry from communities in the county in a formal coalition with the purpose of addressing the problem of underage drinking. Increasing public awareness of the dangers of underage consumption of alcohol and decreasing availability of alcohol to minors are major considerations of the coalition.
