Parenting Awareness and Drug Risk Education

What we do

The P.A.D.R.E. (Parenting Awareness & Drug Risk Education) program is designed to help expecting, new and current parents overcome the challenges with parenting.

The P.A.D.R.E. program has evolved and is no longer just for parenting males!

LifeSteps Council understands that being a parent can be hard, which is why we want to teach you ways to manage this task more efficiently. Though men tend to have different needs than women when it comes to parenting children, classes are available for men, women, and couples. Our program is made up of two main components: case management and parent education classes/groups.

Through these main program components, we will help you manage your specific needs and give you the chance to learn from and with other parents what it means to be a nurturing parent. P.A.D.R.E. wants to help mothers and fathers grow their relationships with their children.

P.A.D.R.E is available in 30 counties of Region 7:

Bastrop, Bell, Blanco, Bosque, Brazos, Burleson, Burnet, Caldwell, Coryell, Falls, Fayette, Freestone, Grimes, Hamilton, Hays, Hill, Lampasas, Lee, Leon, Limestone, Llano, Madison, McLennan, Milam, Mills, Robertson, San Saba, Travis, Washington, and Williamson

Our friendly and experienced staff are here to help you every step of the way!

Case Management

Case management will have you working closely with your P.A.D.R.E. staff member. Together, we will create a plan which will address any needs you and your child might have. Ongoing meetings scheduled each week to ensure that your voice will be heard. All services will be Trauma informed. Services will be provided by LifeSteps staff and referred to a partner if we cannot meet your need. Some services that we can help with are:

  • Parenting Classes and improving parenting skills
  • Accessing health and wellness care
  • Education on substance use and consequences
  • Tobacco cessation services
  • Mental health and substance use care, including crisis counseling and mental health referrals.
  • Education of pregnancy and reproductive health
  • Overdose prevention
  • Utility, housing, or financial planning resources
  • Family violence resources and safety planning
  • Accessing health and wellness care

Your P.A.D.R.E. case manager wants to help you succeed. If you have a goal you want to work on, let your case manager know so they can help you reach that goal!

Programs

Nuturing Parenting Group

Our parenting group is a fifteen-week program that will help put the tools you need to be a successful parent in your parenting toolbox. We promote the idea that in order to be a nurturing, encouraging parent, you must be able to nurture and encourage yourself first. Groups will be created for fathers, mothers, and couples.

Some things that you will discuss include what it means to be nurturing, overcoming barriers such as substance use, stress, anger, and violence, and disciplining without fear. See what other parents have to say and share your own expertise!

Intake must be completed before attendance to the classes.
