Julie Stevens comes to LifeSteps with over 24 years’ experience in the substance abuse addiction field.   She was employed for 14 years with the Southwest Prevention Center of the University of Oklahoma as Training and Technical Assistance Specialist and previously served as Director of Prevention for the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse.  Ms. Stevens is currently on the Texas Certification Board of Addiction Professionals and is chair of the Prevention Committee.  She is also chair of the Prevention Committee of the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium.  She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Baylor University and a Masters of Prevention Science at the University of Oklahoma.  Ms. Stevens has been recognized as the Texas Association of Addictions Professionals Terry Hale Addiction Professional of the year in 2009 for her contributions to the advancement of the profession, was awarded the 2011 Presidential Leadership Award from the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium in recognition of her passion and commitment to creating healthy and safe communities and was presented the 2012 Master’s Academic Achievement Award from the College of Liberal Studies of the University of Oklahoma, which recognizes the outstanding master’s graduate for exemplary achievement.  She has been executive director of LifeSteps since January, 2013.

 

Lisa Wallace, LMSW, ACPS, LCDC-I

Lisa Wallace is LifeSteps’ Associate Director of Prevention and Intervention Services, and Director for the Pregnant/postpartum Intervention (PPI) program.  Lisa holds a Bachelor’s in Social Work from Texas A&M Central Texas, and recently received her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Texas.  She is an LCDC Intern and is an Advanced Certified Prevention Specialist. She also received an Advanced Certification for Chemical Dependency as well as an Advanced Certification for At-Risk Youth through Central Texas College. Lisa previously coordinated Too Good for Drugs in elementary schools throughout Williamson County, where she informed youth about the dangers of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs.  As Director of the PPI program, Lisa provides community-based, gender-specific outreach and intervention services for pregnant and postpartum females with substance use disorders or who are at risk of developing substance use disorders. Lisa has been with LifeSteps for 6 years. In 2009, she received the Volunteer of the Year award from The Williamson County Juvenile Academy and Partners in Education.

 

Laurie Born, Coalition Director

Laurie dove headfirst into ATOD abuse prevention in 2012 while writing grant applications for LifeSteps.  In September 2013 she transitioned into a full-time position with LifeSteps as Director of the Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition. Laurie’s background includes volunteering as a founding board member of a local nonprofit providing peer recovery support services.  She’s passionate about substance abuse and mental health services, and recovery-oriented systems of care.  Laurie has a master’s degree in Public Affairs from the LBJ School at the University of Texas - Austin. Her personality is perfect for bringing people together and getting them excited about what they can do to improve their local community.

Rosana Sielaff has worked as a psychologist and HR/Development trainer for 12 years. She has a Master degree in Psychology and holds a LCDC-I. Currently, she is working towards her Certified Prevention Specialist license. She coordinates the LifeSteps Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition.

 

 

 

Teresa L. Fulps, BA, LCDC - PPI Coordinator

Teresa Fulps has been in the substance abuse addiction field since 1992, and has been a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor since 1995.  She has worked in inpatient and outpatient treatment centers with both adolescents and adults.  Teresa began at LifeSteps in 2005, teaching a universal prevention curriculum and facilitating small groups in schools.  She has provided addiction counseling and individualized support services all around Williamson County, and assessments for the agency.  Teresa currently coordinates the pregnant/postpartum program, and provides evaluations, short-term counseling and education for students in the Georgetown ISD.

  

Lauren Brown, MSSW, LCDC-I, PPI Case Manager

Lauren joined the LifeSteps team as a case manager for the Wee Care program in September 2013.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Texas Tech University (Wreck ‘em!), and a Master of Science in Social Work from The University of Texas at Austin.  Lauren’s prior experience includes crisis counseling with the Austin Police Department’s Victim Services’ Crisis Response Team, and various work with Child Protective Services of Lubbock and Austin, Texas.  She is currently a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor – Intern (LCDC-I) and is working toward her Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW).

 

 

 

Yazmin Mani, LCDC-I

Yazmin Mani

Yazmin Mani is originally from Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico.  She is attending Texas State University to receive a Masters in Sociology.  Yazmin has worked in the prevention field at LifeSteps since July 2011.  She is a case manager for the pregnant and postpartum program.  Yazmin believes in empowering at risk individuals.  In her free time, she volunteers with the youth and young adult pastoral for the Diocese Austin.  She also likes going to the movies, hanging out with friends, bike riding, dancing and watching musicals.

 

 

 

Jeff Nelms, Families in Transition Program Director

Jeff Nelms

Jeff received his Master’s Degree at the University of Texas at Arlington.  He has 25 years of social services, including civil engineering, working with people with physical and developmental disabilities.  Jeff has also been Executive Director for parent advocate organizations, experience setting up 501(C)(3) non-profit organizations, along with writing their bi-laws.  He now has the privilege of being the program director for LifeSteps’ Families in Transition known as the FIT Program.
