LS mission 2LifeSteps’ History

LifeSteps Williamson Council on Alcohol & Drugs has provided substance abuse prevention, intervention, counseling, and educational services to Williamson County since 1978.  In the beginning, only a long, narrow staircase to a small second floor office overlooking the courthouse on the historic square in Georgetown, linked clients to a couple of Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors. Clients seeking sobriety would start up those steps to begin a journey towards a better life, hence the name “LifeSteps.”

LifeSteps focuses on education, substance abuse prevention, assessments and counseling related to alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, youth truancy abatement and court diversion, parenting services and school-based programs for students, as well as family services for families involved in high conflict divorce. Our programs serve thousands of individuals throughout Williamson County and include strong working relationships with the District Courts, the Sheriff’s Office, Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the, school districts, health service agencies, mental health clinics, and non-profit organizations at the local and state level.  As the needs of Williamson County residents have increased, so have LifeSteps’ services.
