SI:\nThe SASSI is a brief & easily administered psychological screening me
asure that helps you identify both adult & adolescents who may have a subs
tance use disorder. The SASSI also provides information that is useful in
treatment planning. The single page paper & pencil questionnaire (also ava
ilable in computer and web-based formats) can be administered in individua
l or group settings.\nWith over 20 years in development & research\, the S
ASSI has an empirically tested overall accuracy of 92% for adults & 94% fo
r adolescents. The SASSI includes subtle questions that have no apparent c
onnection to substance use\, allowing identification of individuals with a
lcohol & other drug problems even if they do not acknowledge substance mis
use themselves.\nABOUT THE TRAINER:\nDavid Helton\, LMSW\, LCDC has worked
in the field of substance abuse for 28 years\, previously as Director of
Case Management at the Recovery Resource Council\, followed by Addiction S
ervices Division Director for MHMR of Tarrant County. In addition to being
a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC)\, David has also complete
d “All But Dissertation” (ABD) for his PhD in Social Work with a specialty
in the use of the Internet and other technology to deliver social service
s. David has published two peer-reviewed journal articles on this topic an
d was awarded Who’s Who Among Students In American Colleges and Universiti
es in 2003 by the University of Texas at Arlington\, School of Social Work
. In addition to training professionals on the Substance Abuse Subtle Scre
ening Inventory (SASSI) for over 25 years\, David has also done extensive
training around Texas on substance abuse issues for Child Protective Servi
ce workers\; has trained on the Addiction Severity Index (ASI) assessment
instrument\; and has taught a graduate social work course on Supervision a
t the University of Texas Arlington and courses on “Assessment and Case Ma
nagement” and “Pharmacology of Addiction” at Weatherford College. David ha
s also been a federal grant reviewer for the Substance Abuse Mental Health
Services Administration (SAMHSA) for 18 years and has also reviewed for t
he Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA)\, Department of Educati
on (DOE) and Department of Justice (DOJ). David is also certified as a Tex
as secondary public school instructor in the subjects of English and Psych
